Chanel No 5 is a classic fragrance and is one of the best selling perfumes around the world. It’s one of the products that every one knows about and has been made famous by the many celebrities who claim to wear it from Marilyn Monroe to Nicole Kidman. First launched in 1921, No 5 was created as Coco Chanel wanted a scent that ‘smelt like a women’ and was supposedly named after the batch that was picked as her favourite.
The idea behind this famous fragrance is that the composition is so complex that you cannot define the notes that make it up as one doesn’t overpower the other. Instead it is combined perfectly as one. I think this is definitely the case as at the best of times it’s hard to describe a fragrance but I find this one impossible. The scent is so unique it’s really something you need to smell yourself to understand the beauty of it. It’s rich floral notes combined with musk, citrus and a touch of sweet is just lovely
The top notes in Chanel No 5 are aldhydes, bergamot, lemon, nerli and ylang-ylang, the heart of jasmine, rose, lily of the valley and iris and the base vetiver, sandalwood, vanilla, amber and patchouli. When combined they create a timeless feminine scent which is beautiful. I expect people wear this scent both during the day and night but for me I stick with the latter. I think this floral yet musky scent is just perfect for evening occasions particularly if I’m getting glammed up to go somewhere. It just screams class and sophistication.
The bottle that houses this fragance is simple and elegant which suits this chic scent perfectly. I love that it is no fuss and it takes pride of place on my dressing table. Whether it be makeup or fragrances you can’t go wrong with Coco Chanel. In fact I even plan to wear a Chanel or Dior fragrance on my wedding day and this one is definitely in the running. I haven’t fully made up my mind though as I also love the scent of a few others… decisions decisions..
If you want to purchase Chanel No 5 you can buy the 50ml bottle pictured above for £67.50 from Boots. Alternatively, the 100ml bottle is £95.50. Chanel No 5 is available in both a Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette but I have the former. If possible I try do go for the parfum as the formula is more concentrated and I find it longer lasting.
