One of the most exciting parts of planning the wedding has been picking my dress (read all about it here). I did that back in late November/early December which was really lucky as shortly after I was diagnosed with glandular fever and unable to do anything. It would has been impossible to have my dream dress then as it took 6 months to make in either the USA or Australia so I would have completely run out of time. It’s such a relief everything worked out okay.
After going to four bridal boutiques I found ‘the dress’ and had no doubt this was that one as it definitely gave me that fuzzy feeling so many brides describe they have when they just know they have picked the right dress It was a very exciting moment and we celebrated with champagne which was really lovely as I had my mum and two Maids of Honour with me.
As you can imagine 6 months is a long time to wait but it went surprisingly quickly and before I knew it I had the call from the boutique telling me my dress had arrived and was ready for me to try on. I booked an appointment which was two weeks ago and was filled with a mixture of excitement and nerves.
The big day was here and I arrived at the Bridal Boutique with my mum and future Mother In Law who would be seeing the dress for the first time. I had butterflies because I was so excited to be seeing not only the dress again but my dress, the one I would actually be wearing on my wedding day but was also filled with nerves in case I didn’t like it… I knew I loved it at the time but 6 months is an awfully long time.
I came to the boutique prepared with my Rachel Simpson shoes and underwear and all that was left was to start getting into my dress while the mums enjoyed some tea and biscuits. I was taken behind a curtain so there was a ‘big reveal’ which is a fun idea and as soon as I saw my dress I fell in love. I can’t believe I forgot how beautiful it was and I really shouldn’t have doubted myself.. I picked it for a reason after all.
The lovely ladies helped me into my dress and I stood on a box to give me a little more height, not that I needed it because the length couldn’t have been more perfect. I don’t want to reveal too much about my dress here as my friends and family read my blog plus I want it to be a surprise for you guys too so I’m not going to go into lots of details about what it’s like just that I absolutely love it and I cannot wait to wear it on the day!
My dress needs some minor alterations as I’ve lost some weight since I was measured but that won’t be done until a few weeks before the wedding. I also need to go back to the shop to try it on with my mum and bridesmaids as they will be given a lesson in how to do it up so they are confident they can do it okay on the day!
Just 94 days to go…. eeeeek!
