If this crazy weather has been taking it’s toll on your skin like it has mine then the Clarins Lip Oil is a product you need to consider buying. I don’t usually suffer too badly with dry lips. Usually a simple lip scrub and lip balm (such as Dior Addict Lip Glow) is enough but I wanted to add something a little extra to account for this changeable weather aka the snow and harsh winds we have been experiencing in the UK.
The first product that came to mind was the Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil. I heard about this product in 2015 when it was first released as a limited edition product. I missed out trying it that time but thankfully, it has now been added to the permanent product range. Great news for us beauty fans.
So why do I love this product so much?
Well it’s all down to the formula. This unique fusion was inspired by Clarins’ expert face and body oils which makes sense as this is more of a skincare product than makeup. It has plant-based active ingredients including:
- Hazelnut oil: provides nourishment, plumps and softens the lips.
- Organic jojoba oil: soothes lips while enhancing their natural beauty and providing a silky sheen
- Raspberry oil: possesses anti-oxidising properties, protects the lips from aging and again provides nourishment
Clarins Lip Oil is a great alternative product to a lip balm. The texture is totally different but it is just as nourishing if not more. When I first heard oil I thought of something light, greasy and thin but this formula is completely different. The oil is thick yet lightweight on the lips, slightly sticky but not in an uncomfortable way. It is also not greasy in the slightest. This product feels luxurious and is very comfortable to wear.
The finish of the Clarins Lip Oil, like you would expect leaves a pretty shine which slowly fades as the product gets absorbed. It isn’t particularly long lasting but to be honest I wouldn’t expect that from this type of product so that doesn’t bother me. Plus, this lip oil adds so much hydration you don’t feel like you need to constantly re-apply it in order to reap the benefits. Even after just one use I notice a positive difference.
Application is made simple with the fat sponge tip. This aspect is a little love hate as some people find this too large but I actually really like it. I wipe off a little excess before application so I don’t find it messy. I like that the applicator is soft too, it makes application far easier than with a tiny solid brush like i’ve experienced with some lip glosses. Speaking of which, this product is very like a lip gloss in some ways.
You have a couple of different options with the Clarins Lip Oil. This is a really great product to wear on it’s own as the shine makes your lips look slightly pumper, it’s nourishing and completes any makeup look well. It doesn’t add any pop of colour though. Although the raspberry shade I have pictured here is a rich berry tone it actually has barely any colour pay off at all. You can also layer this oil on top of other lip products but personally I wouldn’t choose to do this as I don’t like to contaminate the product.
The Clarins Lip Oils are available in a few different shades which have subtle tweaks to the formula and smell. I’ve tried Raspberry and the scent is very sweet. It lingers on the lips and I like it as it reminds me of my childhood as it smells like sweets.
Finally, I love the packaging of this product. It is compact so perfect to pop into your handbag and its sleek design looks very sophisticated. I also love the hint of gold with the lid. This is the kind of product that would look lovely on your dressing table.
You can buy the Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil for £19.00 from Clarins.
